Your Wi-Fi router comes with the default username and password and it is usually written on the back of the router. You can change them as you want and you can always set a password that you can remember easily to do all this. For this, you need access to the administrative interface of the router, for this, you will first have to find the local IP address of your router. Here’s how.

Step One: Find Your Router’s IP Address

Most of the routers are web-based administrative interfaces, in these routers you can find the local IP of your router with the help of the browser. But some routers have different interfaces such as if you are using the use of an Apple Airport router, then you have to use “Airport Utility” on your Mac to change the settings of this router and if using any other router If there are some different applications for it, most likely you will have to use the browser to access the router.

Step Three: Change the Wi-Fi Network Name and Password

Now after logging into the router, you will have to find the Wi-Fi settings, it is usually in the section name on the first page something like “Wi-Fi”, “Wireless”, or “Wireless Networks”. Click around and you should find it.

Now you will see a setting like “SSID” or “Network Name”. These are the same things – the name of your wireless network. Now to change your Wi-Fi password, one has to search for settings to name something like “password”, “passphrase,” “wireless key,” or “WPA-PSK key”. Different routers use different names. We recommend you use a long wireless password or use a phrase and space character instead of a word and while you’re here, go ahead and make sure you have the most secure authentication method you have available. Now after typing the new Wi-Fi network name and password, you need to click on the “Apply”, save button.

Change the Wi-Fi Network Name and Password

If you are connected to your router’s web interface over your Wi-Fi, your device will be disconnected as the router closes its old Wi-Fi network and brings in a new network. Most routers need to restart themselves completely to apply the new settings, so you may lose connection to the router even on a wired connection. Now after changing the settings of your router, you need to connect all your wireless devices to a new wireless name and provide a new Wi-Fi password. Your devices will not be able to connect until you do.
